Performance Clutches – What Are Their Advantages Over OEM clutches?

Performance clutches are ideal if you’re looking to make some modifications to your car to improve its performance. But how does investing in this piece of kit give you advantages over the one installed by the original equipment manufacturer (‘OEM’)?

There are three essential differences between a performance clutch and an OEM version. The first is that a performance clutch will be capable of applying a greater clamping force on the pressure plate, which translates into a higher torque production than can be achieved by the OEM-style clutch. This makes for an increase in acceleration.

The second major difference is that an OEM clutch disk is usually made of an organic material, while a performance clutch is generally made of a sturdier material. The typical OEM clutch offers smooth engagement and is durable over long periods of time with regular, normal driving use and conditions.
